August Fishing Report | Tahoe Sportfishing
August was all about the salmon!
Our fleet landed an incredible 3,808 fish throughout the month, with Kokanee making up the majority of the catch. Although the Kokanee showed up more than a month later than we’re used to this season, once they arrived, they showed up in great numbers.
Captain Zach reports that for most of August, our morning trips were consistently reaching or getting very close to Kokanee limits, with strong fishing continuing into the afternoons. The Kokanee have also been a great average size this year, with most coming in around 12–14 inches.
The season isn’t over yet! Captain Zach expects the Kokanee fishing to continue through September, giving us plenty more opportunities to get out on the lake and target salmon before the season winds down.
If you’ve been waiting to get out and fish Lake Tahoe, September is a great time to do it. The summer crowds are starting to slow down, the weather is beautiful, and the fish are still biting.

August’s Fish of the Month goes to this impressive 18.5-inch Kokanee Salmon, caught on August 22nd with Captain Anthony and Deckhand Channing!
With the average Kokanee coming in around 12–14 inches this season, this one was an especially impressive catch and a perfect way to highlight an incredible month of salmon fishing on Lake Tahoe.
