September 2026 Lake Tahoe Fishing Report
September was another incredible month of fishing on Lake Tahoe and a great way to wrap up an excellent Kokanee season. Our Tahoe Sportfishing fleet caught 3,361 fish throughout the month, with Kokanee Salmon making up the majority of the action.
September Catch Totals
- 3,361 Total Fish Caught
- 3,121 Kokanee Salmon
- 240 Mackinaw Lake Trout
We had an incredible couple of months of Kokanee fishing this year, with strong numbers and some great-sized salmon coming aboard.
Now, we’re making the seasonal switch.
As we move into October, our crews are transitioning from salmon fishing back to our roots: working the bottom for Mackinaw Lake Trout. We’re looking forward to a productive October and another great fall fishing season on Lake Tahoe.
A Look Beneath Lake Tahoe

Captain Zach snapped this photo of the fish finder, giving us a pretty cool look at what’s happening beneath the surface of Lake Tahoe. You can see schools of Kokanee suspended in the water column, with Mackinaw Lake Trout holding underneath them.
It’s a great snapshot of the seasonal transition we’re seeing right now as Kokanee season winds down and we shift our focus back to Mackinaw.
September Fish of the Month

Our September Fish of the Month is an impressive 18-inch Kokanee Salmon, caught on September 29th during a morning charter with Captain Anthony.
It was a great catch and a fitting way to close out an incredible stretch of Kokanee fishing on Lake Tahoe.
October Lake Tahoe Fishing
October marks an exciting transition in our fishing season. As Kokanee season comes to an end, our attention turns back to Mackinaw Lake Trout, the species Lake Tahoe fishing is known for year-round.
Fall is a great time to experience the lake. The summer crowds begin to thin out, the mornings get cooler, and our boats continue heading out in search of Lake Tahoe’s Mackinaw.
Tahoe Sportfishing operates year-round, so the end of summer doesn’t mean the end of fishing.
