About Tahoe Sport Fishing

By now, you may or you may not be familiar with our company. And if you are familiar with us, do you know how we got started? 

Dean Lockwood, a Nebraska native, decided Lake Tahoe was in need of a fishing charter service and started Tahoe Sport Fishing in 1953. He grew a successful business for many years. In 1990 he hired a young man by the name of John Shearer as a fishing deckhand. Dean taught John the ways to fish in Lake Tahoe. John grew as a professional fisherman and became a captain.  When the time came for Dean to retire, Captain John and his wife Shannon purchased the company in 1997.

Now 23 years later, Tahoe Sport Fishing has the largest and only US Coast Guard certified fishing fleet on Lake Tahoe. We are voted Best of Tahoe year after year, proving its worth to not only tourists, but the community as well. Captain John and Shannon have successfully grown the company into what it is today and put fishing back on the must-do list for activities on Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe Sport Fishing fishes year round at least twice a day. In the summer, they offer charters three times a day from Ski Run Marina and Zephyr Cove Marina (Memorial Day through Labor Day only). We catch lake trout Mackinaw year round, brown trout, rainbow trout and Kokanee salmon in the summer. With eight boats ranging from 30 – 45’, Tahoe Sport Fishing can accommodate parties of any size. From a single fisherman, families, bachelor and bachelorette parties, to large corporate outings – we have a boat (or boats!) that will work for you.
